Gas and Sewer Odor Detection in Denver | Airtestco

Gas and Sewer Odor Detection in Denver

Gas and Sewer Odor Detection in Denver

Persistent gas or sewer odor? Get help tracking down the source.

Unexplained odors can be difficult to locate, especially when they come and go or seem strongest in different areas of a home. Airtestco provides gas and sewer odor investigations in the Denver metro area, using a high-sensitivity gas detection meter and more than 40 years of experience investigating building conditions.

I use instrument readings, observations, and systematic odor tracing to help identify where an odor may be entering or originating. The meter can detect low-level gas readings in accessible areas. Finding the source also takes experience: the pattern, location, timing, and conditions associated with the odor all matter.

Odor investigation for homes and buildings

Airtestco investigates persistent odors that may be associated with:

  • Suspected natural gas leaks at accessible piping, appliances, meters, or connections
  • Sewer or drain odors near sinks, floor drains, toilets, laundry areas, or plumbing
  • Odors that appear intermittently or seem to move through a building
  • Odors near furnaces, mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, basements, or utility areas
  • Odors that enter through walls, floors, cabinets, or other building openings

Gas and sewer odors can have different causes and may require different investigative methods. A meter reading is one part of the evaluation; the odor’s location and surrounding building conditions are also considered. If the source is outside the inspection’s scope or requires repair, I can explain what was observed and recommend the appropriate next step.

Experienced odor source tracing

A meter can help identify areas for closer investigation, but it does not automatically reveal the source of every odor. Airtestco combines sensitive instrument readings with practical experience tracing odors through homes and buildings.

The goal is to help narrow down the likely source and provide clear, useful findings. If a specific source cannot be confirmed during the visit, that will be explained in the results.

What to expect

During an odor investigation, I will discuss when and where the odor occurs, inspect accessible areas related to the complaint, and use a high-sensitivity meter where appropriate. I will also consider building conditions that may affect how an odor travels, such as openings, ventilation, plumbing fixtures, and mechanical systems.

After the investigation, I will explain the findings and any recommended follow-up. Airtestco provides independent investigation and testing; repairs should be completed by the appropriate licensed or qualified trade professional.

Frequently asked questions

Can you find a very small gas leak?

A high-sensitivity meter can detect low-level gas readings in accessible areas. Whether a particular leak can be located depends on its size, location, conditions during the visit, and whether the area can be safely accessed. Airtestco cannot guarantee that every leak or odor source will be found.

Can you investigate sewer odors?

Yes. Airtestco can investigate persistent sewer or drain odors in homes and buildings, including odors near plumbing fixtures, floor drains, basements, and laundry areas. The cause may require evaluation or repair by a plumber.

Does a gas detection meter identify every kind of odor?

No. Different odor sources require different investigative approaches, and a gas meter does not identify every substance that may cause an odor. Instrument readings are considered alongside the reported odor pattern and accessible building conditions.

What should I do if I smell natural gas right now?

If you suspect an active natural gas leak, leave the building or area immediately. Once you are safely away, call 911 or your gas utility. Do not wait for a private inspection to address a suspected emergency.

Schedule an odor investigation

If you have a persistent gas-like or sewer-like odor and need help tracing its source, contact Airtestco to discuss the odor, when it occurs, and where it is strongest.
